Wasserman intensifies focus on M&A with appointment of private equity executive Steve Murray to lead acquisition strategy

Wasserman Appoints Steve Murray as Executive Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategy

Wasserman, a prominent US-based sports, music, and entertainment agency, has made a strategic move by appointing Steve Murray as its new Executive Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategy. Murray, who previously worked at Providence Equity Partners, brings nearly 15 years of experience to the role, with a strong background in the sports, music, and entertainment industries.

Murray’s expertise in media rights, digital marketing, commercial rights, music rights, technology, and education will be invaluable as Wasserman continues its expansion efforts. Notably, Murray played a key role in Providence’s strategic investment in Wasserman back in November 2022, which has fueled the company’s growth. Since then, Wasserman has completed over 20 acquisitions, with eight occurring after Providence’s investment.

Murray was instrumental in two major deals for Wasserman: the acquisition of CSM Sport & Entertainment and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, which have expanded the company’s service capabilities and global reach. Elena Rochelli, Wasserman’s Chief Financial Officer, expressed confidence in Murray’s ability to drive the company’s growth strategy forward smoothly.

Murray himself is excited about the opportunity to contribute to Wasserman’s next phase of growth and pursue new M&A opportunities. His appointment reflects a growing trend in the music and entertainment industry of hiring professionals with financial expertise to lead M&A efforts. Companies like Warner Music Group and TikTok are also making strategic hires to focus on acquisitions in the music space.

Overall, Murray’s appointment at Wasserman signals a new chapter of growth and expansion for the agency, as they continue to make waves in the sports, music, and entertainment industries.
