TikTok Shop: Potential Commission, Growth Opportunities, and Stats
TikTok, the popular social media platform known for its short-form videos, is making a big move into the world of ecommerce with its new Shop Tab feature. While the platform is currently not taking a commission from products sold through the Shop Tab, there is speculation that this may change in the future.
According to a recent article in The New York Times, one seller mentioned that he is unsure when TikTok might start taking a commission. This uncertainty presents an opportunity for savvy drop shippers and digital service or product sellers to potentially earn higher margins by selling through TikTok without the added cost of shipping.
For influencers with a large following, the opportunity to monetize through affiliate videos is also available. This allows users to recommend products to their followers and earn a commission on sales. With over 200,000 sellers already registered for TikTok Shop and more than 100,000 content creators using the affiliate program, the platform is poised to become a major player in the ecommerce market.
Yahoo! Finance recently reported that 92% of TikTok users take action after watching a product on the platform, and 90% of US shoppers are satisfied with their purchase experience when TikTok is involved. To qualify for the affiliate program, users need to have at least 5,000 followers, and currently, 40% of users have access to the Shop Tab on their home screen.
While the TikTok Shop features are still being rolled out gradually to US users, it is expected to be fully available by early October. With the platform’s massive reach and high engagement rates, TikTok is set to become a major player in the online shopping market.
